8 Million MTN Subscribers Have Submitted Their NINs

While you are still in the spirit of celebration of the festive period, don’t forget to do your National Identity Number (NIN) registration. The new deadline has not changed, Airtel and MTN have also been granted a license to register Nigerians on the NIMC database.

This means that if you have been unable to get your NIMC registered, you can simply walk into any of the above mention telecom operators and register for your NIMC.

MTN disclosed that so far, over 8 million subscribers have already uploaded their NIN on its platform.

MTN said that on December 21, the Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, met with stakeholders and it was agreed that the deadline for the NIN update is extended.

Consequently, MTN said three weeks extension was given to subscribers with NIN and six weeks for those without NIN.

The company added that it has been granted NIN registration license to facilitate the enrollment, alongside other operators.

“The directive means that while recharge activity and other services continue to be available, operators cannot add new subscribers,” it said.

The company said it remains committed to ensuring compliance with the directive of the Nigerian government.

The Nigerian government had on Monday extended the deadline to link NINs to SIM cards, to January 19, 2021.
