How to Set-up YouTube to Remind You to Stop Watching Videos

Are you addicted to watching YouTube videos and all effort to stop it has always proved abortive? Well no need to go for any deliverance, has Google is here to deliver you.

During the Google I/O in 2018, the Big G introduced series of digital wellness features. Some of this features will be available on Android P while some goes to various apps including YouTube.

YouTub e can now remind you to stop watching videos if you on it for too long. So right now, if you have an Android device, you can set up YouTube to remind you that there are other things in life besides watching streaming videos.

How to Set Up YouTube to Remind You to Stop Watching Videos

  1. Open YouTube
  2. Tap your profile image in the top right-hand corner
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select General
  5. Tap ‘Remind me to take a break

From there, you will see several different reminder frequencies:

  • Never
  • Every 15 minutes
  • Every 30 minutes
  • Every 60 minutes
  • Every 90 minutes
  • Every 180 minutes

After the “timer” has run out, a pop-up message will appear suggesting it’s time to take a break. Additionally, you can use this pop-up to either dismiss the message or go back to settings to adjust the frequency.

This update is gradually rolling out so don’t panic if you don’t have the update yet at your backend. Wait for Google to smile to your direction.

The question is, will you yield to this warning or you’ll turn a side eye? Take a break, get some fresh air because its time to limit your YouTube intake.

  1. I doubt if this will reduce the time people spend watching youtube Since the reminder can easily be dismissed. They should have made it in such a way that the video pauses and you can’t continue until after a certain period of time if they are serious about this. Youtube are just trying to paint themselves as angels that care about too much time spent on their site as if they are not making their money

  2. Loll, alot of Nigerians certainly won’t make use of this feature. Alot of factors are already reminding us that there is life outside the YouTube app, especially our Telcos

  5. I have a friend who loves streaming and you can hardly stop her, so I don’t think a reminder will be of any help to youtube addicts.. But it is a nice idea

  7. How can this stop someone from youtube addiction? I believe your data is the determinant of abuse. U can’t abuse youtube without unlimited data which i believe is scarce
