How to Start an Egg Business

This column is just going to be a Weekend entrepreneur column, and
I’ll be doing that every weekend. It doesn’t matter if you have been unemployed
for years or you are a fresh graduate and you are thinking of what to do after
your service year; what you need is just the right kind of idea that will generate income for you.
In the word of the wise, money flows from your head into
your pocket… So if you don’t have money in your pocket, its simply because your
thinking tank is empty.

I’ll quickly share with you this business idea that will give
you an edge this 2015.
Egg business Idea: This is one lucrative business so many
people know nothing about. This business can easily fetch you a lot of money. You
can determine how your profit look like and how to increase your profit.
I’m pretty sure some of you might have heard this before but
its pretty okay to know what egg does in the body.

Benefit of Egg
Eggs are high in cholesterol and this makes it a perfect
diet for growing kids. It can reduce risk of many diseases, it supplies
quality protein to the body, it is rich in vitamin A and this helps healthy
eyesight, it contains choline and this is used to build cell membranes which
helps in producing molecules in the brain.
Do you know…
==>People use egg to bake confessionary like cake, bread
and meat-pie
==>People use egg to make hair conditioner, soap and shampoo
==>People use egg shell to make fertilizer
==>Even farmers make use of egg shell to repel pests…
Tool Needed to Run This Business
==> Empty Crates: it could be paper crates or plastic
crates. You can buy crates of 100 pieces at N10,000 or N5,000 if you choose to
buy the paper crates , the total number you will need to run your business now
depends on you. Note that the paper crates are more protective to your eggs, it
reduces the number of cracks you will realize from transferring your
eggs, and it’s cheaper as well but damages more quickly than the plastic ones.
==>Poultry Pick up Farm: An example of pick up farm is
the Obasanjo farms in Ogun State. To start buying and selling eggs, you must locate
two or more farms in your state, depending on what capacity you want to work
on, a poultry farm is where you can pick up eggs for sale. Before you can start
picking eggs from farms, you must be a registered customer with the farm.
==>Know Your Target Market
This is very important and it should be the number one on
your list. Your target market should be a highly populated environment, local
shops, bakery(s) etc.
==>You Need a Vehicle. It is more profitable when you are
mobile. You’ll find it easier to make supplies to your customers.
==>Write a Business Plan: This will help you identify
your target market, growing your business, what price to set to your egg,  and to estimate your potential profits.
Cost of Starting This Business
N80,000. With this amount you can buy 120 crates of eggs. A
crate of egg can cost N650 or less from farm depending on the size you
choose to buy, any balance left will be incurred on fueling your vehicle and
other road expenses.
Potential Profits
You’ll gain profits of N100 on each crate if you sell as a
wholesaler, but if you sell as a retailer, you gain N300 on a crate. In a
business like this, you are the boss, you determine what your profit look like.
If you decide to be selling 100 creates a week, then your profit will be
N10,000 weekly, and N40,000 monthly.
So if you increase the number of crates you sell, your
profit also increases.
Money hurries from those who waste it; and hurry to those who invest it.
